About

Anne E. Mortensen is an author whose remarkable life has been shaped by resilience, faith, family, service, and a belief that the circumstances confronting us today do not have to determine the rest of our lives.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, while her father was serving in the United States Air Force, Anne spent the first five years of her life in England. Growing up in a military family brought frequent moves, new beginnings, and experiences that helped develop the resilience she would need throughout her life.

At nineteen, Anne faced an unexpected pregnancy and one of the most difficult decisions of her life. Believing her newborn son deserved opportunities she was not yet able to provide, she placed him for adoption. She held her baby for only a few precious minutes before saying goodbye, never knowing whether she would see him again.

More than three decades later, Anne was reunited with her son. When he embraced her and said, “Thank you for letting me live,” six simple words brought extraordinary meaning to a decision she had carried in her heart for thirty-three years.

Her memoir, Thank You for Letting Me Live: A Mother’s Story of Adoption, Separation, and Reunion, is not simply a story about adoption. It is a deeply personal journey through hardship, choices, consequences, faith, forgiveness, marriage, family, redemption, and ultimately reunion.

Anne shares her story especially for those who may be facing circumstances that seem overwhelming or without hope. Her message is simple but powerful: What you see in front of you today is not the rest of your life.

Following retirement, Anne and her husband, author Richard E. Mortensen, founded Transitions Press Books, dedicated to publishing books that encourage readers to look beyond present circumstances and recognize the possibilities of what their lives can still become.
